Donald John "Jack" Whoric, 87, of Vanderbilt, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, at his residence.
Jack was born June 17, 1932, in Connellsville, a son of the late Matthew and Helen (Ellenberger) Whoric.
Jack, as he was known to his family, graduated from Dunbar High School, Class of 1950, and served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired after 25 years service from Pennsylvania & Lake Erie Railroad, where he worked as a car repairman. He attended the Vanderbilt United Methodist Church and was an avid golfer and bowler; he also loved just spending time at home with his family.
Jack will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his loving family and by all who knew him: his two brothers, Jim Whoric and his wife Betty of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Joe Lee Whoric of Phoenix, Ariz.; his three sisters, Nancy Peebles, Cynthia Rath, and Lois McKee, all of Vanderbilt; his nieces, Kelly Jo Wiersma of Phoenix, Ariz., Jackie Dawn Heffner of Harrisburg, Daphne Larkin of Nashville, Tenn., and Jamie Lynch of Franklin, Tenn.; his nephews, Robert Peebles of Vanderbilt and Joseph "Joby" Whoric of Phoenix, Ariz.; a great-niece; and several great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Caplin (2002).
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the Ralph E. Galley Funeral Home, 501 Railroad St., Dawson, 724- 529-2611 , www.fergusonfunerals.com . Family and friends will be received from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10-11 .m. Wednesday, the hour of service, in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Marvin Watson officiating.
Graveside committal service and interment will follow in Cochran Cemetery, with full military honors bestowed by the Connellsville VFW Post 21.
Special thanks is extended to nephew, Bobby Peebles, who was always with Jack with helping and loving hands; Amedisys Hospice caregivers, especially nurses Sharon and Cathy; aide Becky; Pastor Lee Maley; Pastor Rob Rabenstein; and to pastor and friend, Marvin Watson!
