Dawn E. Sherwood, 82, of Scottdale, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at the home of her daughter in Severna Park, Md. Dawn was born July 9, 1933, in Chester, W.Va., a daughter of the late Charles E. and Grace A. (Simmons) Ewing. She was married to Irvin S. Sherwood, who passed away Feb. 8, 2013. Dawn was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She retired in 1997 from Southmoreland School District, where she was employed as an art teacher since 1964. She graduated of Edinboro State College with a Bachelor of Science in Education and received her master's degree from West Virginia University in art. Dawn served as a docent for the Westmoreland Museum of Art in Greensburg and was a member of the Greensburg Art Club, Laurel Art Club and Latrobe Gallery. A longtime member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Scottdale, recently she attended and was affiliated with the Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church. Dawn enjoyed knitting sweaters and spending time with her children and grandchildren, swimming, painting and gardening. Dawn will be sadly missed by her loving family; her three children, Michael E. Sherwood, and his wife, Karen, of Landisville, Tamar Long and her husband, Robert, of Acme, and Tawni Sikon and her husband, Gregory, of Severna Park, Md.; her 10 grandchildren, Stephen, Eric and Dana Sherwood, Jael Harris and husband, Brian, Jarah Long and companion, James Stefancic, Robert Long and wife, Alaina, Jonah Long and wife, Hannah, and Sydney, Cole and Samantha Sikon; her five great-grandchildren, Brody, Max, Madalyn, Zeal and Aurora; her brother, John "Whit" Ewing and his wife, Sandy, of Akron, Ohio; and her niece and nephew, Kisa and Kurt. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Joseph Sherwood. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B.
