Dale R. Callaghan, 62, of Mt. Pleasant (East Huntingdon Township), formerly of Scottdale, passed away at 4:10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at his residence with his loving wife, Mary Sue, his dog, Hannah, and his priest, Father Tom Federline, at his bedside. Dale was born Sept. 27, 1958, in Connellsville, a son of Patricia A. (Roth) Callaghan, of Woodcrest Senior Living, Scottdale, and the late Ronald D. Callaghan, who passed away in September 1988. He married Mary Sue (Patrilla) Callaghan July 6, 1991. Dale was a devoted husband, son, brother and uncle. He was previously employed at Allegheny Power Service Corporation as a criminal investigator from 1990-1994, at Giant Eagle Inc. as a loss prevention representative from 1987-1990, at Kaufman's Department Stores as a security manager from 1982-1987, and at the Borough of Scottdale as an emergency dispatcher from 1981-1982. Dale graduated from Southmoreland High School, Class of 1976 and received a bachelor of arts degree in criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1980. He was a current parishioner at Saint Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, and formerly worshipped at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Scottdale. Dale was a life member of the Scottdale Volunteer Fire Department, Company No. 4, where he served as captain, assistant secretary, vice president and board member. He was also chairman and board member of the Relief Association and a charter member of the Junior Fire Company No. 7. He held memberships with the American Society of Industrial Security, Railroad Police & Special Agents Association, Law Enforcement Assistance Association, Westmoreland County Firemen's Mohawks Association and the Westmoreland County, Western Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania State Firemen's Associations. For social activities, he was a member of the Scottdale Firemen's Club, the Scottdale BPO Elks Lodge No. 777 and was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins hockey fan and Cribbage player. Dale will be sadly missed by his loving family; his wife of 29 years, Mary Sue (Patrilla) Callaghan; his mother, Patricia A. (Roth) Callaghan; his sister, Sharon A. Leonard and husband, Skip, of Katy, Texas; his nephews and nieces, Brian A. Leonard and wife, Marijane, of Menlo, Calif., Scott R. Leonard and wife, Melissa, of Katy, Texas, Christopher Furlo and wife, Lori, of Greensburg, Mary Furlo, of Greensburg, Carey Furlo and wife, Christy, of Slatington; his great-nieces and nephews, Ally and Zachary Furlo, Tyler and Lizzie Leonard and Jordan, Payton and Camryn Leonard; his sisters-in-law, Sandy Furlo and husband, Paul, of Greensburg, Janine Shutty and husband, Joe, of Mt. Pleasant, and Louise Garrison and husband, Dan, of Nice, Calif.; his Godchildren, Lori Garlick Lentz and Anna and Sarah Hostert; and his very special sister friends, Betsy Hostert, of Greensburg, Pamela Balzer, of Tarrs, and Scott and Trudy Olsen and family, of Tarrs. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, George R. Roth (1995); grandmother, Evelyn G. Roth (2001); his aunt, Janet Coppetti; and his cousin, Teresa Coppetti Garlick (1988). Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Pius X, Mt. Pleasant, with Father Thomas Federline and Father Daniel Nazimek con-celebrating. Please go directly to the church. Chapel committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Bullskin Township. The Scottdale VFD will hold a memorial service at 7:45 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
