Curtis G. "Curt" Piper, 71, of Scottdale, passed away at 1:49 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017, at his residence. Curt was born Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1945, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Joseph Marshall and Leona Beatrice (Johnson) Piper. Curt was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was employed as a carpenter for Laurel Interiors and Vestige of Latrobe and at Tri-State Interiors of Connellsville. A graduate of East Huntingdon High School, Class of 1964, he enjoyed his love of farming, tractor pulling, and John Deere tractors. He was also a member of the Scottdale Sons of Italy Lodge and was a veteran, serving active duty with the Pa. National Guard during the Vietnam War. Curt is survived by his loving family; his two children, George C. Piper, and his wife, Joan, of Scottdale, and Jamie D. Piper, of Mt. Pleasant; his granddaughter, Melissa Smalley, and her companion, Chris Cockrell; his great-grandchildren, Caleb and Kynleigh Cockrell; his sister, Rebecca Stants, and her husband, Skip, of Mt. Pleasant; his brothers, Joseph M. Piper, and his wife, Martha, of Greenville, Benjamin F. Piper, and his wife, Joanne, of Mt. Pleasant, and Robert Denny Piper, and his wife, Ellen, of Latrobe; numerous nieces and nephews, including his two special nephews, Vaughn and Varden Piper; and his companion, Charlene Fisher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Belle Suter; his brother, James Piper; and his ex-wife, Carol Copeland Piper. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel where funeral services will immediately follow, with Pastor Bob Huber officiating. The Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard will bestow full military honors following the funeral service. Final resting place will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
