Charles Richard Sheaffer, 96, of Dickerson Run, passed away Monday, July 29, 2024, in Eicher's Personal Care Home, Normalville. Dick was born March 4, 1928, in Scottdale, a son of the late Charles Joseph and Helen Marie (Soblatne) Sheaffer. He married Ethel M. (Colbert) Sheaffer on March 20, 1949.
Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a retired boilermaker employed with U.S. Steel. He was an active member of Pennsville Baptist Church until his health diminished. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served as a paratrooper during World War II. Dick was an excellent handyman, as there was nothing he couldn't fix or build. He also loved riding motorcycles, hunting, and fishing.
Dick will be sadly missed by his loving family, his wife of 75 years, Ethel M. (Colbert) Sheaffer; his children, Linda K. Ruvo, Roxanne Forsythe and husband Jeff, Ranae Sheaffer, Marilyn R. Keslar and husband Ron, and Judy Marcozzi and husband Ron; his grandchildren, Traci Sepkovic (Mark), Tara St. Onge (Michael), Susan Cottom, Krystle Brown (Bill), Erika Forsythe, Nichole Koehler (Chad), and Kaelie Stover (Craig); his great-grandchildren, Dylan Koehler, and Brady and Allison Sepkovic.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Hall; his sister, Lillian Duke and his brother, Wendel Sheaffer.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the RALPH GALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 501 RAILROAD ST., DAWSON (www.fergusonfunerals.com). Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor Brian Swan officiating. Chapel committal service and interment will follow in Dickerson Run Union Cemetery with full military honors bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard. The family extends appreciation to Dr. Paul Means, Connie and the caregivers at Eicher's, Phyllis of Amedysis, and Chaplain Brian Swan. Love Lasts Forever.
