CAROL RUTH (MILLER) GARBER, 78, of Scottdale, passed away at 3:17 AM Friday, December 18, 2015, in Hempfield Manor, Hempfield Township. Carol was born January 12, 1937, in Plain City, OH, to the late Roman and Anna (Slabaugh) Miller. She married Stanley David Garber on August 27, 1960.
She was a graduate of Eastern Mennonite College, Harrisonburg, VA, with an English major.
Through the years she worked as a teacher, librarian, pastor's wife, homemaker, and copy editor.
Carol was a voracious reader. As a child she would secretly read at the table with a book in her lap, or in bed with a flashlight under the covers. She was a word nerd and enjoyed writing and doing crossword puzzles.
From a young age she was an avid follower of news and politics. An empathetic listener, she often provided encouragement and counsel to others. She will be remembered for her ready smile, her sense of humor (especially her giggle fits), and her friendly talkative nature.
She was a member of the local Mennonite Church wherever she lived, in Ohio, Indiana, Ontario, and Pennsylvania.
Carol will be sadly missed by her husband of 55 years, Dave Garber; her son, David W. Kane, Scottdale; her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Dave Walter, Kenosha, WI; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Ann Hartman; brother-in-law Wilmer Hartman; and brother-in-law John Garber Jr.
