Carl Edward Kimmel Jr., 80, of South Connellsville, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at his residence. Ed was born Feb. 3, 1937, at West Overton in East Huntingdon Township, a son of the late Carl Edward and Margaret Alice (McIndoe) Kimmel, who passed away on May 14, 1996 and March 7, 2002 respectively. Ed, also known to many as Buffy, grew up in Alverton and graduated from East Huntingdon High School in 1954. He joined the Air Force after school and became a telecommunication specialist working with major corporations such as Lucent, AT and T and Western Electric, traveling throughout the Pacific, Atlantic, and European regions. Ed was noted for his handmade painted ceramics, which he distributed and catalogued the world over. Specifically, his nativity scenes were a cherished treasure. Ed was also a faithful and generous member of Albright United Methodist Church in South Connellsville. He leaves behind his canine companions, Lucky, Sparky, and Sissy. Ed will be sadly missed by his loving family, his two sons, Gary L. Kimmel Sr. and his wife, Christine, of Jacobs Creek, and Edward A. Kimmel Sr. and his fiancee, Dorothy "Dot" Sumey, of Springfield Township; his four grandsons, Gary L. Kimmel Jr. (Renae), Edward A. Kimmel Jr., Travis A. Kimmel, and Tyler L. Kimmel (Kassie); his stepgrandchildren, Christopher Calhoun, Michael J. Vanorsdale, Jennifer R. Kurtz (John), Frederic E. Taxacher Jr. (Ruth), and Elizabeth A. Black (David); his brother, Matthew Thomas Kimmel (Nancy), of New York; his sister-in-law, Audrey Stoots, of Ohio; his two nephews; and his niece. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy (Anderson) Kimmel DeAngelis; his second wife, Mary (Durbin) Kimmel; and his stepgrandson, William L.Bullock.

Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with his pastor, the Rev. Steven Lamb, officiating. Chapel committal service with full military honors bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, where he will be entombed.
