Calvin Hughes, 81, of Connellsville (Bullskin Township), passed away at 6:35 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024 in the Harmon House Convalescent Center, Mt. Pleasant. Calvin was born Feb. 24, 1943 in Connellsville Township, a son of the late Paul and Edna (Clark) Hughes.

Calvin was a retried heavy equipment operator working out of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #66. He graduated from Connellsville Area High School, Class of 1961 and was a longtime member of the King Solomon Masonic Lodge #346. Calvin served in the PA National Guard as a sergeant and enjoyed boating, restoring antique cars, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Calvin will be sadly missed by his loving family, his sister, Lois Povlish and her husband Steve of Farmville, Va.; his brother, Rodger Hughes and his wife Debbie of Connellsville; and his special friend, Connie DeBolt of Connellsville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Clifford and Dennis Hughes.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 1 p.m. Sundayin the funeral home chapel where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Brian Swan officiating, Graveside committal service and interment will follow in Stouffer Cemetery with full military honors bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honors Guard.
