Billy L. Swank, Sr. 94 of Scottdale (Kingview), passed away peacefully on Monday, September 20, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born June 30, 1927 in Calumet, a son of the late John and Jennie (Rodgers) Swank. He married Harriet E. (McGovern) Swank on November, 1950 and she passed away on September 5, 2017.
Bill was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great and great-great grandfather. He retired from the Scottdale Mennonite Publishing House in Scottdale after working for 25+ years in the book binding department. Bill was a faithful member of the Apostolic Holiness Church in Connellsville and served as a trustee. He was honorably discharged from the US Army Air Force on September 29, 1947 after serving in World War II as an airplane and engine mechanic. Bill was a member of the Scottdale American Legion Post and for many years was involved with the Mennonite Church and enjoyed helping at the World's Attic in Somerset.
Bill will be sadly missed by his loving family; his three children, Robert Swank and wife Saundra, Billy Swank Jr. and wife Wendy all of Scottdale and Judy McBeth and husband James of Ruffsdale; his grandchildren, Jimmy McBeth Jr. and wife Becky of Tarrs, Jessica Provlic and companion Joshua Hudec of Everson, Becky Bower and husband Scott of Ohio, Tonya Riggs and husband Tim of Latrobe, Penny Nichelson and husband Tom and Stacey Domina and husband Sal, both of Connellsville, Billy Swank III and wife Melissa of Connellsville, April Shallenberger and companion Brandon of Connellsville, Jody Swank and companion Jeremy Steiner and Andrea Swank, all of Scottdale; his 19 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; his brother, Albert Swank of Dunbar; and numerous nieces a nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his seven brothers, John, Theodore, Ray, Edward, Ernest, Amos, and Sherman Swank; and his three sisters, Lillian, Gladys, and Mary.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET, SCOTTDALE (724-887-5300). Family and friends will be received from 6-8 PM Thursday and 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday in the funeral home chapel where funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday with Pastor Terry Upton officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will follow in Greenlick Cemetery with full military honors bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard. The family would like to express their special appreciation to Suncrest Hospice and UPMC Mercy staff. Love Lasts Forever!
