Betty Bauer Husband, 105, of Dawson, passed awaypeacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
Betty was born on June 24, 1921, in Fairhope,Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Robert B. and Margaret (Morgan) Bauer. On October 12, 1940, she married Benjamin F. Husband, and they shared nearly 70 years of marriage before his passing on February 9,2010.
She was a graduate of Connellsville High School, Class of1939. During World War II, Betty proudly contributed to the war effort as a local “Rosie the Riveter,” working in two different factories.
Betty was devoted to her church and community. She was the oldest member of Philip G. Cochran Memorial United Methodist Church in Dawson, where she was a member of the Sarah B. Cochran Class and served as church treasurer for 25 years. She was also a long-time member of the Dawson-Vanderbilt Lions Club, the Order of theEastern Star, and a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Dawson Volunteer Fire Company. Betty and Benalso built and operated a service station and a laundromat, in Dawson, which provided much neededservices to the community.
Betty was an avid sports fan and cheered on the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers. She was asupporter of the area Little League program and enjoyedwatching the Little League World Series. Most of all she loved watching her family play ball right in her own yard.
Affectionately known as “Mimi” by all those who lovedher, Betty’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her children, Peggy Cochran and husband, John, of Atlanta, Georgia, Richard Husband and wife, Barb, of Connellsville, Pennsylvania; and
daughter-in-law Brenda and partner, Kenneth Dumbauld,Sr., of Dickerson Run, Pennsylvania.
She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: BrentHusband (Paige), Bethany
Husband-Song (Kee Joe), Benjamin Husband IV (Veronica), Jonathan Cochran (Brigid), Bryan Cochran,Sarah Ely (Rich), Erica Pollock (Keith), and Laura Bucci(Joe); 15 great-grandchildren, Clara, Ameillia, Enola-Grace, Cameron, Davis, Anna, Josiah, Willa, John Brooks, Leah, Noah, Emelie, Natalie, Lucy, and Gemma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty waspreceded in death by her son, Benny, in 1998, and hersiblings, Ernest Bauer, Doris Frost, Margaret McCoy,Robert Bauer, William Bauer, and Frank Bauer.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to WVU Medicine Hospice and to Betty’s caregivers who helped keep her wish to remain athome a possibility: Nancy Heisterman, Denise Thorpe, Sandra Lepre, Sheila Ohler, and Brenda Husband.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Betty’s life at Ralph Galley Funeral Home, 501 Railroad Street, Dawsonon Friday, August 28th from 2:00pm to 8:00pm andSaturday, August
29th at the Philip G. Cochran UMC ,211 Griscom Street, Dawson from 10:00am to 11:00am. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Bruce Anthony officiating. A gravesideservice and interment will take place at Cochran Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Philip G Cochran MemorialUMC or UPMC Children’s Hospital.
Betty will be deeply missed by her family and all who hadthe privilege of knowing and loving her.
