Betty Bernadine (Rowe) Claycomb, 88, aka "Busy Bee", of Port St. Lucie, Fla., passed away at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at her residence surrounded by loved ones. Betty was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Hunker. She was married to Harold "Jake" Claycomb for more than 60 years. Harold passed away in April of 2008. Betty lived in Pennsylvania all of her life until she moved to Florida in March of 2016 with her daughter, Carol Claycomb Show. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a retired public school employee who worked in the Southmoreland High School cafeteria for more than 25 years. Betty's passion was baking and shared her love of trying new recipes in her weekly "Busy Bee" column printed in five different newspapers for more than 43 years. Betty shared her joy of baking on a national scale as a contributing editor in "Taste of Home" magazine for more than 25 years. She was a faithful member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hunker. Betty will be sadly missed by her loving family, her son, K. Scott Claycomb and his wife, Sue, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; her daughter, Carol Claycomb Show and her husband, Stephen B. Show, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; her grandchildren, Sarah Smith and her husband, Ryan, of Huntington Beach, Carrie Show Byrne and her husband, Michael, of Oxford, Fla., Jared Show, of Huntington Beach, and Emily Show Pitt and her husband, Tyler, of Raleigh, N.C.; her great-granddaughters, Maggie, Abigail and Lily, of Oxford, Fla., and Novienne, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; her great-grandsons, Andrew, of Oxford, Fla., and Levi, of Raleigh, N.C.; her sister, Beverly White and her husband, Richard, of White; her sister-in-law, Evelyn Claycomb, of Dawson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Kenneth Claycomb; by her parents, Samuel Rowe and Beetie "Morrison" Rowe; and two brothers, Richard Rowe and James Rowe. Betty was much more than a wife, a mom, a grandmother and a great-grandmother. She was her husband's Jake dietitian, a maker of dinner from the garden, a party giver, a hostess of school lunch getaways, a girl scout leader, a hairdresser, a cub scout leader, a daughter, a mother's club leader, a lighting bug catcher, a sister, a cafeteria worker, a movie actress, the Queen of the Dames of Malta, a maker of bunny cakes, a sewing teacher, a 4H leader, a party plate maker, a cookie maker, a friend, a writer of letters every day, a maker of outstanding potato salad and she never met a stranger.

Family and friends will be received from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel. Additional viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Hunker, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Kara Probst officiating. Interment will be private in Alverton Cemetery next to her late husband.
