L. Bernadine (Whipkey) Etling, 85, of Ruffsdale, passed away at 11:20 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Bernadine was born Jan. 22, 1933, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Cecil and Effie (Leichliter) Whipkey. She was married to George R. Etling, who passed away on June 16, 2015. Bernadine was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She attended New Beginnings Evangelical Church in Youngwood, and enjoyed her life revolving around her loving family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bernadine will be sadly missed by her loving family, her five children, Robert Etling and wife, Linda, of Fitz Henry, Vicky Bageant and husband, Mark, of Connellsville, Barbara Killinger and husband, Fred, of Everson, Joan Porter and husband, Don, of Ruffsdale, and Carol Lukac and partner, Mark, of Ruffsdale; her 12 grandchildren, Wayne Etling (Kimber), Chris Eckenroad, Jeff Means (Joy), Brent Means (Diana), Jennifer Hohmann (Chad), Amber Etling (Todd), Nathan Lukac, Patrick Bageant (Jessica), Seth Porter (Veronica), Erik Means (Kara), Zachary Lukac (Holly), and Caleb Porter; 23 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Edward Whipkey, of Amelia, Va., Betty Grimm, of Champion, Anna "Kitty" Kelley (Ronald), of Connellsville, and Cecil "Sis" Dietrich (Phillip), of Tionesta; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her six brothers, Charles, Rausel, Rayburn, Lee, Earl, and Louis Paul Whipkey; and her three sisters, Jennie May Whipkey, Reva Woods and Helen Martini.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Brad Preston officiating. Graveside committal services and interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
