Obituary

Arthur Francis Smith "Yuckie" age 86, of Everson, passed away
on July 30, 2023, born on July 22, 1937 in East Huntingdon Twp,
the only child of the late Frank H. and Helen P. (Sommerfeld)
Smith.


He was employed by Anchor Hocking in the cap shipping
department with 42 years of service and the former Ruffsdale
Distillery that made Seagram's Whiskey.


He was a former member of the Everson PAK and the Everson
Fire Department holding the ranks of Captain and Lieutenant.
He played for St. John's in the Scottdale Men's Church Softball
League in the 60's and 70's as a pitcher and first baseman.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris L. (Cunningham)
Smith, his five daughters Karen (Russell) Christner of Everson,
Anita Smith and Alexis Prinkey both of Everson, Deanna (Clair)
McFadden of Pennsville, Deirdre Cyphert of Scottdale, his son
Derek (Sue Grantz) Smith of Mount Pleasant, his 16
grandchildren: Eric Christner, Stacey Christner (Shane
Radacovich), Randy Christner (Tess Gibbs), April (Brian) Rowan,
Patrick Smith, Zack Smith, Jeremiah (Amy) DeShetler, Rosanna
Bucco, Caleb McFadden (Erin Colgan), Seth McFadden, Alesia
McFadden, Carissa Cyphert (Dru Miller), Lindsay Cyphert,
Madison Cyphert, Jacob Prinkey (Isabella and Olivia), Anthony
Calabrace; his 8 great-grandchildren, Chase and Cody Christner,
Kayden Hernley, Brian and Steven Rowan, Ethan and Caitlin
DeShetler, and Aiden McFadden; his foster sister JoAnn
(Malanick) Zerilla.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son
Michael F. Smith on Jan. 2, 2022, his great-grandson Dodge
Aaron Christner on July 20, 2023, his maternal grandparents
Walenty (Valentine) and Marianna (Jesikiewicz) Sommerfeld,
who immigrated from Poland and his paternal grandparents
Herman, who immigrated from Germany, and Sarah (Bittinger)
Smith, his foster parents who helped raise him after the death
of his mother in 1944, Nick and Anna Malanick, his foster
brothers Eugene and Milton Malanick.

His family would like to give thanks to his nurses, Teresa,
Karissa, Alyssa, Charly, Francesca, Ron and the staff at Twin
Lakes Rehab and Healthcare Center.

Personalized arrangements are under the professional
supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105
Spring St., Scottdale (www.fergusonfunerals.com). Family and
friends will be received from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from
10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel, where
funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor
Neil Stevens officiating. A private burial will be held at Mt. Olive
Cemetery.
