Obituary

Alfred T. Argiro Sr., 78, of Scottdale, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Alfred was born June 12, 1939, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Frank A. and Anna (Koenig) Cammarata, who passed away on April 15, 1972 and Dec. 29, 2003, respectively. He married the former Dolores Spinola on Jan. 13, 1962. Alfred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He was employed as a combustion engineer, last working as a valued contractor for MLP Steel in Scottdale. Previously, he worked as a union contractor and for Good Humor Ice Cream prior to owning his own construction company. A veteran of the National Guard, Alfred was a member of the Brooklyn, N.Y. American Legion, the Mt. Pleasant Polish Falcons, and the East Huntingdon Fireman's Club, where he called for "Big Al's Bar Bingo." In 1991, he and his wife, Dolores, founded D's Market of Scottdale. He was known as a bodybuilder, for his storytelling, his jokes, and his hard-working demeanor. Alfred will be sadly missed by his loving family, his wife of 55 years, Dolores (Spinola) Argiro; his four children, Al Argiro Jr., of Rockwood, Joann Shannon and husband, Mark, of Scottdale, Diane Toth and husband, Dave, of Virginia, and Roxanne Argiro and her fiance, Jim Dillinger, of Scottdale; his six grandchildren, Roseann Shannon, Kevin Shannon, Alfy Argiro, Amber Argiro, Alyson Toth, and Vincent Argiro; his three great-grandchildren, Katlyn Hernley, Easton Kardos, and Olivia Argiro; his sister, Terri Fretts, of Scottdale; his brother, Joe Argiro and his wife, Arlene, of Connellsville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph A. Cammarata, on July 15, 2002.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (724-887-5300 / www.fergusonfunerals.com / GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W79 degrees 35.278). Family and friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, in the funeral home chapel, followed at 11 a.m. by funeral services with Pastor Tom Shirer officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will follow in St. John's Roman Catholic Cemetery, with full military honors bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard.
